About Ten Lives

Ten Lives: Tales of Cats We’ve Loved (and Served) is a collection of stories, poetry, art, and photos featuring cats that have impacted our lives. While every cat is unique and every cat’s story is different, the love (and let’s face it, disinterest) they share with us is the common thread that connects all the stories in the book. From the insanity of kittens to the serenity of seniors, cats leave us with a lifetime of stories when they go. Stories that will always make us smile, thanks to the aloofness, the middle-of-the-night head-butting, the demands for food, the good, the bad, the hilarious—all of it. Ten Lives spotlights all aspects of the distinctive bonds we have with these amazing creatures.

Like our previous self-published anthology, Gone Dogs, which sold more than 7,500 copies, this beautiful gift book celebrates 50 of these mercurial creatures from around the world, in both humorous and heartbreaking fashion. Entries will include everything from the poem Beth from Little Women wrote about the loss of S.B. Pat Paw, to the ultimate childless cat lady, Gloria Steinem, to one of the many who have benefited from the internet’s fabled Cat Distribution System, recently profiled in USA Today. Crowd-sourcing offers people around the world the opportunity to contribute their personal stories, providing them the catharsis that comes from turning their fondest memories into stories that speak to everyone.
